Letter E

Welcome to another busy week of Preschool!

This week The Little Princess learned all about the letter "E"
This week we learned about the letters Ee, the number 5, and triangles. Our theme was eggs, and we learned that the yellow part of an egg is called the yolk. Our Bible verse was "Every knee will bow before me: every tongue will acknowledge God." Romans 14:11

For books this week, we continues reading Matthew ABC by Peter Catalanotto and Ten, Nine, Eight by Molly Bang. We looked at a few egg books including, Hurry, Hurry by Eve Bunting and The Cow that Laid an Egg by Andy Cutbill. We also read a few elephant books including Elephants Cannot Dance by Mo Willems and Elephants on Board by Suse MacDonald.

We began our week by making colored eggs for our E page using markers and water on coffee filters. The Little Princess really went to town coloring the coffee filters and was amazed to see the colors run together when we added the water. She made three in all and chose her favorite to add to her Learning Book.

She also painted her E's as usual. She is really starting to pay attention to where she puts each color, not just glob it all together like she was doing just a few weeks ago.

Here is her finished masterpieces.

This week we also learned about the number five. She painted her 5 and added it to her Learning Book.

We also learned that we have five fingers on each hand. I traced her hand and cut it out for her and she glued it onto her Learning page.

She had a lot of fun putting her hand on top of the traced hand. She also had each of us do it to see if her hand matched any of our hands. I love when she takes investigative initiative like that!

We also worked on our upper and lower case letters to add to the kitchen wall. She made a capital letter Elephant.

And a lower case e hatching from an egg.

My kitchen is getting so colorful!

This week was a shape week, so we learned about triangles. We talked about how triangles have three sides and three corners or angles. While she was painting her triangle to add to her Learning Book, we had a very in depth conversation about Telly Monster from Sesame Street whose favorite shape is a triangle!

She also made a penguin out of triangles. We happened to be visiting my in-laws out of state at the time and brought some school work with us. This was the only thing we did while we were there though, It was just too much fun playing with Nana and Grampy!

Eventually, everything was added to her Learning Book.

My plan was to have a special snack of Deviled Eggs this week, but we never got around to it. After all, we were too busy playing at Nana's house. I don't think my picky Princess would have eaten them anyway. (Cue the trumpet. Whomp, whomp, whomp.)

 Until next time!

Letter Dd

Welcome to another week of Preschool! This week we focused on flowers. Let's begin with The Little Princess's Learning Poster.

Our theme this week was, as I said, flowers. We also learned about roots and how roots help the flowers to drink. Our Bible verse was Luke 6:31 "Do to others as you would have them do to you."
Every week we go to the library and check out a bunch of books on our theme and letter crafts. I just recently realized I have not been including these books in my posts. I will be including them from now on. This week's books were: Daisy Head Maisy by Dr. Seuss, Exploring Flowers by Kristin Sterling, Ava's Poppy by Marcus Pfister, How Do Dinosaurs Eat Their Food by Jane Yolen, Goldilocks and the Three Dinosaurs by Mo Willems, and Ten Terrible Dinosaurs by Paul Stickland. We also have been reading Matthew ABC by Peter Catalanotto and Ten, Nine, Eight by Molly Bang. These two books we'll keep for a few weeks as they deal with the entire alphabet and numbers.

This weeks theme craft was making a daisy out of cotton swabs. First, The Little Princess glued the stem, leaves and yellow center to the construction paper. She chose black paper which surprised me, though I think it made the daisy pop. Next, she used white glue and dipped both ends of the cotton swab into the glue and then placed them all around the yellow center.

And here is her finished product.

We also worked with the letter Dd this week. She made a capital letter D dinosaur.

And a lower case d daisy.

But I will warn you to pay special attention to your lower case d's. the same shape, from different placements is a lower case q,p,b, and d. Even knowing this, I still directed her to make her d wrong the first time.

Here they are, hanging in the kitchen.

The Little Princess also painted her upper and lower case Dd's to add to her learning book.

For her Dd learning page, she made daisy prints. She used an empty 20 ounce soda bottle and dipped the bottom into white paint and stamped it onto her paper to form the daisy petals. Then, when it was dry, she used the cap from the bottle to stamp the yellow centers. She was quite pleased with the outcome!

Here is the finished project.

This week we worked with the number 4. This week we had some family fun with her number four. Since there are four of us in our family we used four silly faces for her learning book.

This week she also worked with he color orange. First she finger painted with orange paint.

She then glued a bunch of orange pictures from magazines onto her paper.

Finally, this week, we made flower shaped Rice Krispy Treats. Well, that was the plan anyway. However, after the treats were made and we went to cut out the shapes I could not find my flower shaped cookie cutter. So, instead, we made flower petals (aka, hearts).
Until next time!

Letter C

Week three of pre-school. What a busy week! in addition to school, we also visited the York Fair, where the Daleks won... Wait a minute, that's another post.

Here is a sneak peak at The Little Princess's Learning Poster:

This week we learned all about Crabs. Crab's claws are called Pincers, not pinchers. (Side note, we are not crabs, therefore, we do not pinch others!)

Our Bible verse was, "Create in me a pure heart, Oh God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me." Psalm 51:10.

This week we made a crab using The Little Princess's foot print and hand prints. I know it looks more like a lobster, but we had fun. This was also very messy. That's why there aren't any pictures of the process for this one. (Don't move while I take your picture while you have paint all over your foot! Um, yeah, no.)

We, of course, made our alphabet letters! C is for Crab and c is for chameleon.

We also learned that C is for clock. I found the clock face template here.

And the best kind of ice cream has three scoops!

We also learned that an oval is kind of like a circle. It has no sides or angles like a circle, it just got squished. By what? Well, that depends on your imagination!

For our snack this week, C was for, well, cookies of course!

Until next time!

Bb is for Butterfly

Welcome to another fun week of Pre-School! This week was rather fun.

Here's a peek at The Little Princess's Learning Poster:

This week's theme was butterflies. Our vocabulary word was not carrots. Everyone who looked at our poster asked me what a carrot has to do with a butterfly. Please believe me that this is a cocoon. (Please?)

Our Bible verse was "Be kind to one another and build each other up." 1 Thessalonians 5:11

We also worked on the letters B and b, the number 2, and the color red.

This week we learned that butterflies start as eggs, hatch into caterpillars, wrap themselves into cocoons, and then become butterflies. So, The Little Princess used a toilet paper tube to paint caterpillars.

The Little Princess also painted her B's which we placed into her Learning Book and she made a Bumble Bee to go with it. (Sorry, only pictures of the finished products.)

She also made a Bumble Bee out of the letter B.

And a butterfly from the letter b.
Here are the finished products hanging in the kitchen.

The Little Princess also worked on the number two. First she painted her two to be put into her Learning Book. I love that she's starting to paint the number and not just put paint all over the page!
Next, we made eyes to go into her Learning Book. She decided on brown eyes, like her. Then, insisted on eyelashes, top and bottom! My little girly girl!

We also worked with the color red. The Little Princess finger painted a picture in red.

Next, she glued a whole bunch of red things to another page.
Both were added to her Learning Book

Finally we made Banana Pops! After peeling the bananas, I cut them in half and showed her how to place a craft stick into each one.
Into the freezer overnight. Then the next morning we dipped half into yogurt and rolled them in coconut and chocolate bits for a very yummy breakfast. The other half we dipped in chocolate and covered in candied pecans and coconut, and put back into the freezer for dessert later.
These were super yummy and I'm sure will be requested again and again. I may have to keep a supply of frozen bananas on hand from now on.

Until next time!
