Letter H

Welcome to another week of preschool!

This week was all about the letter H. We learned about houses all around the world. We learned that every house has a roof. We also learned about the number eight and the color green. Our Bible verse this week was, " Hear O Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord is one." Deuteronomy 6:4

The books we brought home from the library this week were, If You Lived Here: Houses Around the World by Giles Laroche, Not Inside This House! by Kevin Lewis, and Building a House by JoAnn Early Maken. We also brought home books on horses including, The Author Who Painted a Blue Horse by Eric Carle and Horses! by Gail Gibbons. 

This week we did not do a theme craft, the week just sort of got away from me. If you are really looking for one though, the one I was planning on doing can be found here.

We did, however, do the rest of our usual activities. The Little Princess made her capitol H House.

She also had fun gluing the mane and tail onto her lower case horse.

This week's letter are much more colorful than last week's!

The Little Princess painted her letters. She favored purple this week.

For her H craft, I had her make a house out of simple shapes. I have to admit, she wasn't too happy about this one. She told me she already made a house with her capitol letter, and shouldn't be making another one.

In the end, I think she was happy with her pages.

She painted her number eight and added it to her Learning Book. 

This week for the number eight she made an octopus with eight legs. We used crepe paper streamers cut in half long ways for the legs which she then colored with markers.

 She got a little carried away with the markers, but she had fun. (Note to self: before suggesting a color to paint with, check the color of the page so she's not putting a green eight on a green page. *sigh* Oh well.)

 We added to the color section in the Learning Book this week with green. The Little Princess found a lot of green things to glue to her page.

She always has fun finger painting!

 As always, here are the finished pages. Her favorite green thing was the Geiko Gecko. Both my Daleks have a fascination with him. I just don't know where it comes from.

For those of you who are wondering about the band aid on The Little Princess's forehead, it was nothing. She decided one day that she needed one. The glue on this particular band aid was really strong and it stayed on her head all week.

Letter G

Welcome to another fun week of preschool! 

This week we learned about giraffes. We also learned that giraffes have spots to help camouflage them from other animals that want to eat them. We also learned about the letter G, the number 7, and squares. Our Bible verse this week was, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to everyone." Mark 16:15.

Some of the books we looked at this week were, Giraffes Can't Dance by Giles Andreae, My Pet Giraffe by Mark Iacolina, Giraffes Aren't Half as Fat by Miriam Aroner. We also read about goats in Let's Count Goats by Mem Fox, What Floats in a Moat? by Lynne Berry, and Llama Llama and the Bully Goat by Anna Dewdney. 

Since our theme was giraffes, The Little Princess made a giraffe with basic shapes and finger painted the spots.

The Little Princess also made a capital letter goat,

and a lower case goose.

She chose purple eyes since everything else was so "colorless."

This week she made a gingerbread girl for her learning book.

She also worked on her number seven.

I am starting to have to get creative for her number pages. Today she hung seven pieces of clothes on the line.

She was excited about the clothes I made out of scrapes of fabric. I tried to make them similar to clothes she has. She really liked the "Dorothy" dress I made from the scrap of fabric left over from her Halloween costume.

This week we also learned all about squares. Did you know they have four corners and four sides that are all the same size?

This week The Little Princess made a robot out of squares of aluminum foil and construction paper.

She decided her robot needed four arms.

This week we also had a special snack of grapes.

Letter F

 Welcome to another wonderful week of preschool!

This week we learned all about the letter F, the number 6, and the color yellow. Our Bible verse was "For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self discipline." 2 Timothy 1:7

We also learned all about fish. We also learned that fish breath through the gills they have on the sides of their heads. The books we read included The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister, Sophie's Fish by A.C. Cannon, and Fish by Helen Frost. We also had a few books about foxes including, Fox in Socks by Dr. Seuss and Rosie's Walk by Pat Hutchins.

The Little Princess made a fish bowl using clear contact paper. I cut out a fishbowl for her to color, then placed it onto the sticky side of the contact paper. I then gave her seaweed and fish that I had cut out of construction paper and she stuck them on where she wanted them. Then she gave all the fish eyes and mouths with markers. When she was finished, I covered it all with another piece of clear contact paper and trimmed it up.

Here is her finished fish bowl. She decided that the fish with fins are sharks and the fish are trying to get away from the sharks.

This week we also made the capital letter F into a fox.

She also made a lower case f into a fish.

Here they are completed and hanging on the wall.

The Little Princess also painted her fs for her learning book.

I also allowed her to use glitter. I was a little wary of letting a three year old use glitter, but she did great. Of course I did not take my eyes of of her for a second while the glitter was out. After she glued the fish together, I put some glue where she told me to and she put glitter on it. She had a lot of fun. I may have to bring glitter out again.

This week The Little Princess also painted her number six. We also discovered that there are six letters in The Little Princess's name. We looked through magazines to find the letters in her name. I cut them out and she glued them to her page.

The Little Princess also learned all about the color yellow. She helped me find yellow things to cut out of magazines to glue to her page.

She also finger painted with yellow paint. She loves feeling the paint all over her hand.

 This week for our letter snack we had goldfish crackers. Sorry, no pictures of this one, but I have a feeling y'all know what they are. ;-)

Thanksgiving Countdown

I'm so excited to be bringing you a new post unrelated to preschool! I need to spend more time making these posts. But, before I get started, since it sort of fits into this post, I just wanted to show you the Daleks costumes. Bubba was a Lego mini fig knight and The Little Princess was Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz.

Here we are into the first week of November, and if your house is anything like mine it is filled to the brim with Halloween candy. 

Yeah, those are just from Trick or Treating. We also went to two Halloween parties and a Trunk or Treat night. Can you say sugar overload! We are trying to eat a lot healthier here at the Crafty Princess house. So, this year we are adding a few new traditions. 

To start, we invited the Switch Witch to come to our house this year. The Switch Witch has a cat that only eats candy. If you invite her to your house and leave your Halloween candy for her she will leave a gift for you. The Daleks loved the idea of the Switch Witch and happily left most of their candy for her. She left a remote control flying UFO for Bubba and a castle that turns into a unicorn for The Little Princess.

So, now that the fun of the Switch Witch is over, I wanted something fun to do with the candy the Daleks decided to keep. I came up with a Thanksgiving countdown. 

Since Thanksgiving is on the 28th this year, I needed 28 pieces of candy. It just so happens that's how many each of the Daleks saved from the Switch Witch. (Okay, maybe I did plan ahead, just a little.) Then I made two huge turkeys with 28 feathers and hung them on the front door under our family calendar.

Next, I hung a piece of candy onto each feather using painters tape to try to avoid tearing the paper when the candy is taken down.

Here is Bubba's turkey with all the candy he chose to keep. (It appears he enjoys taffy, bubble gum, and lollipops the best.)

Here is The Little Princess's turkey with her top candy choices. (Tootsie Rolls, Lollipops, and Skittles.)

The idea behind the turkeys is everyday after dinner they will get to pick a piece of candy for dessert. However, they don't just get a piece of candy. After all this is a Thanksgiving countdown. They have to replace the candy with something they are thankful for.

As of today's typing, we are on day two. Bubba has been thankful for Mommy and Daddy. The Little Princess has been thankful for Mommy and Bubba. (Cue the Sally Fields imitation. "They like me. They really like me!)
